About
Also known as: Alvin "Youngblood" Hart, Alvin Youngblood Heart, Alvin' Youngblodd' Hart, Gregory Edward Hart
Taj Mahal once said Alvin Youngblood Hart has "thunder in his hands," and that's a fair summary of the guy. He's widely seen as one of the world's foremost country blues players, but he's just as comfortable in 1960s and 1970s guitar rock, western swing and traditional country. Comparisons to Lead Belly and Spade Cooley get thrown around, which tells you how far his range stretches. His debut, Big Mama's Door, came out on Okeh Records in 1996, and the awards followed quickly. He took the W.C. Handy Award for best new artist in 1997, and Down Beat named Territory its best blues album of 1999. Down in the Alley earned a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album, and he later picked up a Grammy for his producing and contribution to the compilation Beautiful Dreamer. Other records include Start with the Soul and Motivational Speaker.
