About
Amanda Shires started out as a hired fiddle player, backing Texas songwriting veterans like Billy Joe Shaver and Todd Snider, and it was Shaver who nudged her to record something of her own. That led to a mostly instrumental demo in 2005 and a debut as a solo singer and songwriter a few years later. She has since put out nine solo albums, with Nobody's Girl arriving in 2025. Her big moment came with My Piece of Land in 2016, which earned her an Americana Music Association nomination and an Emerging Artist of the Year win in 2017. She is also a fixture in Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, with whom she won a Grammy for The Nashville Sound. In 2019 she brought together Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris and Natalie Hemby to form The Highwomen, a country supergroup built to push back against women getting so little radio airplay.
