About
Amarok take their name from the Inuit word for wolf, which gives you a pretty good sense of the spirit behind this Spanish group from Sant Hilari Sacalm. Rooted in progressive folk with strong Mediterranean and medieval influences, they've been crafting their distinctive sound since Robert Santamaría and Lídia Cerón founded the band in 1990. Their music carries a genuine environmental conscience too: several of their albums, including early recordings and Tierra de Especias, were made entirely using solar powered equipment, which is very much part of their identity rather than a gimmick. Over more than three decades they've built a deep catalogue, from Canciones de los mundos perdidos in 1995 through to El Ojo Del Mundo in 2021. Their most recent release, Canciones Para Un Planeta Herido from 2024, suggests the ecological themes that have always run through their work are as central as ever.
