Few R&B tracks hit as hard as "1 Thing", the 2005 banger that put Amerie on the map worldwide. Built around a sample of The Meters' funky "Oh, Calcutta!", the song topped the Hot R&B chart in the US and cracked the top five in the UK, becoming one of that year's best selling singles across Europe. It came off her second album Touch, which debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and went gold. Amerie had already made a solid first impression with her 2002 debut All I Have, a gold certified record produced entirely by Rich Harrison that peaked at number nine on the Billboard 200 and spawned the hit "Why Don't We Fall in Love". She went on to release two more albums, Because I Love It in 2007 and In Love & War in 2009, showing off a sound that moves comfortably between contemporary R&B, soul and pop. Her recent upload "MINE" from early 2025 suggests she has not been sitting still.
