About

Also known as: Ryan Anthony Massaro

Mission Bell, his 2011 fourth album, hit number one on the Billboard 200 with guests including Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, and Sam Beam, making Amos Lee one of the few folk artists to top that chart. The record was produced by Joey Burns of Calexico, and its single "Windows Are Rolled Down" cracked the top ten on the adult alternative chart. What makes that achievement even more striking is that it remains the lowest selling number one Billboard album on record as of that year, shifting just 40,000 copies. Lee's sound sits somewhere between 1970s folk rock, rustic soul, and a bluesy country twang, and critics have compared him to John Prine and Norah Jones in equal measure. He has opened for an almost absurd roster of names: Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Adele, and more. Songs like "Colors" turned up on Grey's Anatomy and House, and "Sweet Pea" landed in an AT&T ad campaign. His fifth album, Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song, came out in October 2013, and he has kept performing since, including a Farm Aid appearance that same year.
