Amy Shark built her reputation the hard way, releasing music under a string of different names before settling on the one she borrowed from her favourite film, Jaws. The Gold Coast singer songwriter broke through properly with her 2016 single "Adore", which hit number 3 on the ARIA Singles Chart and landed at number 2 on the Triple J Hottest 100 that year. Her debut album Love Monster followed in 2018 and went straight to number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. She has picked up 8 ARIA Music Awards from 29 nominations, winning Best Pop Release three times across her Night Thinker EP, Love Monster, and the track "Everybody Rise". Beyond recording, she has become a familiar face on Australian television as a judge on Australian Idol. Her sound sits firmly in indie pop territory, but her songwriting pulls from a rawer, more emotionally direct place than the genre label might suggest.
