About
An Abstract Illusion are a Swedish band who blur the lines between progressive death metal, melodic death metal and black metal, usually under the banner of atmospheric death metal. Their debut album, Illuminate the Path, landed independently in 2016 and even squeezed in a cover of Windir's "Svartesmeden och Lundamyrstrollet", a nod to Norwegian black metal that tells you a bit about where their heads are at. Things stepped up in 2022 when they signed to Willowtip Records and released Woe, which got a warm reception from reviewers, with singles like "Slaves" and "In the Heavens Above, You Will Become a Monster". Their third album, The Sleeping City, followed in October 2025 and earned a spot on Loudwire's list of the 11 best progressive metal albums of that year. "No Dreams Beyond Empty Horizons" and "Emmett" were the singles pulled from it.
