About
Angelo De Augustine is the kind of songwriter who might record an early batch of songs in a bathtub, with a reel to reel tape machine and a single microphone. That lo fi streak ran through his low key early releases, starting with the self released Spirals of Silence in 2014. By 2019, his album Tomb was being called his first bona fide studio record by The Irish Times. He signed to Asthmatic Kitty Records for Swim Inside the Moon in 2017, and NPR described the mood of its song "Carcassonne" as being like waves rushing onto the shore. Sufjan Stevens has been a regular companion, with De Augustine opening for him and the two teaming up on the single "Time". In 2021 they made A Beginner's Mind together in an upstate New York cabin, watching movies every day for inspiration. His solo follow up, Toil and Trouble, landed in 2023.
