Quebec fingerstyle guitarist Antoine Dufour has built a devoted following through jaw dropping acoustic performances, most famously a cover of Jerry's Breakdown played with fiddler Tommy Gauthier using a single guitar between the two of them. That kind of inventive approach runs through everything he does: his playing is heavily percussive, leaning hard on slap technique and natural harmonics, and he is often compared to the likes of Andy McKee and Don Ross for sheer technical complexity. He won the Canadian Guitar Festival's Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 2006 and placed third at the international equivalent the same year. Signed to CandyRat Records, Dufour has released a string of solo albums including Naissance, Existence, Convergences, and Sound Pictures, plus a collaborative record with Gauthier called Still Strings. His primary axe is a Mario Beauregard Orchestral model cutaway, and the red bandana tied above the nut on his guitar neck has become something of a signature look. He also teaches guitar remotely, passing on the craft to players around the world.
