About
Aqueerius is a collective of three: Charlotte Dommershausen, Seppe Salome and Jip Warmerdam. Together they make queer musicals that blend electropop with a streak of science, pushing at gender norms and rewriting the way history gets told on stage. Their work sits deliberately in the space between high art and kitsch, and that tension is kind of the whole point. Their production Beyond the Ball centres on Julie d'Aubigny, also known as Madame de Maupin, a real life opera singer, duellist and queer rebel in the court of Louis XIV. She fought social convention with both her voice and her sword, and Aqueerius uses her story to ask sharp questions about the norms that still shape us today.
