About
Also known as: ArcAngels
When Stevie Ray Vaughan died in 1990, the musicians closest to him channelled their grief into something remarkable. His Double Trouble rhythm section, drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon, joined forces with singer guitarists Doyle Bramhall II and Charlie Sexton to form the Arc Angels, named after the Austin Rehearsal Complex where they first started playing together. Their 1992 debut on Geffen Records cracked the Billboard chart and earned strong critical notices, with the band making their national TV debut on Late Night with David Letterman that same year. Internal tensions and Bramhall's heroin addiction broke the band apart in 1993, but the Arc Angels have never quite stayed gone. They reunited for live dates from 2002 onward, and in 2009 released Living in a Dream, a CD and DVD package combining live recordings from 2005 with new studio tracks. Between reunions, the individual members kept busy at a serious level: Bramhall toured with Eric Clapton and Roger Waters, Sexton hit the road with Bob Dylan, and Layton and Shannon recorded with Texas soul outfit Storyville.
