About
Arrested Youth is the project of Ian Johnson, an American singer songwriter who blends rock, hip hop, and pop into something that sits comfortably in the alternative and indie rock space. He dropped his debut single in 2017 and built momentum fast, supporting Yungblud on tour in 2018 before releasing his first full length album, Fear, that same year. His 2021 album Nonfiction, produced by John Feldmann, included a collaboration with Mark Hoppus recorded over Zoom, and he went on to support Twenty One Pilots on their Takeover Tour. The road through Nonfiction was rough. Johnson was diagnosed with a Chiari malformation mid tour and had to undergo brain and spinal surgery in late 2021. He channeled that experience into Too Late to Start Over (2024), recorded in Los Angeles with producer Mike Green, which trades in a more hopeful, stripped back honesty. His lyrics have always leaned into mental health and the weight of modern life, and that thread runs clearly through everything he makes.
