About
Also known as: Asmegin
Ásmegin take the folk and viking metal formula seriously enough to write their lyrics in Norwegian and Old Norse, and even modelled some tracks on Henrik Ibsen's classic play Peer Gynt. The band's name itself translates from Old Norse as 'Might of the Gods', which sets the tone nicely. Formed in Norway in 1998, they put out their debut full length Hin Vordende Sod og Sø in 2003 and followed it up five years later with Arv. The lineup has always been a bit of an ensemble, featuring an impressive spread of instruments including mellotron, mandolin, accordion, fiddle and piano alongside the expected metal weaponry. With members connected to projects like Solefald and Ram Zet, there's a real depth of craft running through the band.
