About

Augustin Dumay plays a 1743 Guarnerius del Gesu that once belonged to Leonid Kogan, which tells you something about the level at which this French violinist operates. His career took off after Herbert von Karajan invited him as a soloist to a concert in Paris alongside Yo Yo Ma, and from there he went on to work with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and a long list of others. Conductors like Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa, and Charles Dutoit have all shared the stage with him. Beyond performing as a soloist, Dumay has built a serious conducting career, leading the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie for over a decade and serving as a professor at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Brussels. His recordings on EMI and Deutsche Grammophon have picked up a Grammy, a Gramophone Award, and Victoires de la Musique honors.
