About
Aya, the Huddersfield producer and musician who records under her first name in all lowercase, made an immediate impression when her debut album Im Hole landed in 2021 on Hyperdub and earned a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork. Before that, she had been quietly building her craft under the name Loft, releasing EPs and a compilation of bootlegs and edits. The switch to Aya marked a clear artistic leap. Her 2025 follow up Hexed!, also on Hyperdub, pushed things even further, with Pitchfork describing it as one of the most unhinged albums of the year. Between those two records she dropped the Lip Flip EP in 2024, keeping her restless output ticking along. Experimental and hard to pin down, she is one of the more genuinely singular voices working in UK electronic music right now.
