About
Also known as: Banarama, Bannanarama
Bananarama hold a Guinness World Record as the all female group with the most chart entries in history, which gives you a sense of just how relentlessly they kept delivering hits across two decades. The London trio of Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward broke through in 1982 as featured vocalists on Fun Boy Three's top five UK hit, then quickly built their own run of classics including "Cruel Summer", "Robert De Niro's Waiting...", and "Venus", the last of which hit number one in the US in 1986. Between 1982 and 2009 they placed 32 singles in the UK Top 50, and during the mid 1980s they were very much part of the MTV fuelled Second British Invasion in America. Fahey left in 1988 and was briefly replaced by Jacquie O'Sullivan, who departed in 1991, leaving Dallin and Woodward to carry on as a duo. That slimmed down lineup still managed four more UK Top 30 hits into the 2000s, and the original trio reunited for a one off tour in 2017. Their catalogue stretches across pop, dance pop, hi NRG and synth pop, with their Stock Aitken and Waterman produced era sitting at the glossy heart of late 80s British pop.
