About

Band of Skulls built their reputation on a sound that AllMusic described as "gritty, ferociously heavy indie rock and roll out of the mist of blues history", with a scuzzy garage rock edge that made them stand out from the Southampton scene. Their 2009 debut Baby Darling Doll Face Honey announced them properly, with "I Know What I Am" landing on the Friday Night Lights soundtrack and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, while "Friends" found its way onto the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack. They kept busy through the early 2010s, touring with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and supporting the Dead Weather and Muse, and releasing the well received Sweet Sour in 2012. After founding drummer Matt Hayward left in 2017 and bassist Emma Richardson departed in 2022 to pursue painting (she later joined the Pixies), Russell Marsden kept Band of Skulls alive as its driving force. The band returned to live shows in 2023 as an expanded five piece, and released a new single "Born in Amazement" in 2024. That same year they announced Cold Fame, a retrospective box set collecting their first three albums alongside B sides, rarities, and a coffee table book.
