About
Also known as: Jillian Banks
Jillian Banks, who records as BANKS, built her reputation on a sound that sits somewhere between atmospheric R&B and shadowy electropop, with vocals that feel almost uncomfortably raw and personal. Her 2013 SoundCloud upload "Before I Ever Met You" caught the ear of BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe before she even had a label deal, and within a year she was playing Coachella and opening for The Weeknd. Her debut album Goddess landed in 2014 on Harvest Records, cracking the top 20 in several countries and going top 15 on the Billboard 200, with "Beggin for Thread" earning a platinum certification in the US. She followed that up with The Altar in 2016 and III in 2019, the latter drawing her strongest critical response yet. After splitting from Harvest Records she went independent for her fourth album Serpentina in 2022, pushing into more experimental territory, and her fifth album Off with Her Head arrived in 2025. Tracks like "Waiting Game" have shown up in films and TV series including Divergent and Grey's Anatomy, giving her music a reach well beyond the festival circuit.
