About
Barry Hay's Flying V Formation is a Dutch rock project built around Barry Hay, the longtime frontman of Golden Earring. Hay launched the group around 2012, bringing together younger musicians including Pablo van de Poel of DeWolff, Daim de Rijke, Huub van Loon and Jan Rooymans. Their debut album arrived in May 2016 to strong reviews, showing Hay still had plenty of creative fuel outside the band he had fronted since 1967. The project has a loose, collaborative spirit that sets it apart from Hay's solo work. In December 2017, the Flying V Formation put out a festive cover of The Ronettes' classic "Be My Baby", adding their own spin to the girl group staple. For anyone who grew up with Golden Earring's massive run of Dutch chart hits, this side project is a satisfying look at a different, more adventurous side of one of the Netherlands' most distinctive rock voices.
