About
Bas Ragas is less a reggae act in the usual sense and more a theatre maker who sings. His shows mix storytelling with music, digging into Bible stories and asking the awkward questions about them. Along the way he sings songs by Elvis, Toon Hermans and Elton John, and he likes to work close to the audience, in a literal as well as a figurative sense. His work reaches beyond the stage. He made the theatre show In Gods naam, appeared in the EO television series Bijbelen met Sterren, and wrote the bestselling book Jezus, waarom?, which later gave its name to a stage show of its own. Believers, doubters and the plain curious are all welcome, and the press has described his performances as something that sits between cabaret, theatre and a concert without fitting any of them.
