bdrmm started as a solo bedroom project by Ryan Smith in Kingston upon Hull before growing into a full band with his brother Jordan on bass and a rotating cast of collaborators. A demo landing on BBC Radio 1 early on gave them a foothold, and after signing to Sonic Cathedral in 2019 they put out their debut album Bedroom the following year, a record that planted them firmly in the shoegaze conversation. Since then they have kept pushing their sound outward. Their second album I Don't Know, released on Mogwai's Rock Action Records in 2023, pulled in ambient, trip hop, slowcore and jazz textures. Their third album Microtonic arrived in early 2025 and leaned even further into electronic territory. Along the way they have done remixes for Daniel Avery, A Place To Bury Strangers and Andy Bell, which gives you a decent sense of the circles they move in.
