About
Beppe Gambetta is an Italian guitarist who has spent decades convincing American roots audiences that a Genoa native can flatpick with the best of them. His style leans on flashy licks, intricate cross picking, open tunings and fluid slides up the neck, and it draws comparisons to Doc Watson. He started the Italian bluegrass band Red Wine in 1977 and wrote the first Italian instructional book on flatpicking. One writer called his sound a virtual United Nations of influences, and the Huffington Post named him one of the best flatpickers anywhere. He is a regular on the North American festival circuit, with stops at Walnut Valley, MerleFest and Kerrville, and he has played with David Grisman, Doc Watson, Norman Blake and Tony Trischka. The album Traversata, made with Grisman and mandolinist Carlo Aonzo, features a custom 14 string harp guitar. His most recent record on the list is Terra Madre from 2024.
