About
Also known as: BtBaM
Between the Buried and Me once described their own 2007 album Colors as "new wave polka grunge" and "adult contemporary progressive death metal", which tells you most of what you need to know about this Raleigh band. They started out in the metalcore world in 2000 and slowly stretched into sprawling, genre hopping progressive metal that treats a single album like one long, twisting piece of music. Along the way they've put out a run of ambitious records: Alaska, Colors, The Great Misdirect, the two part Parallax saga on Metal Blade, Coma Ecliptic, and the paired Automata albums. They even made a covers album, The Anatomy Of, with songs from Metallica, King Crimson, Queen and Pink Floyd, so the range of influences is no accident. The lineup of Tommy Giles Rogers Jr., Paul Waggoner, Dan Briggs and Blake Richardson has held steady for years, and their latest, The Blue Nowhere, landed in September 2025.
