Biffy Clyro built their reputation the hard way, spending years grinding through smaller venues before their 2007 album Puzzle cracked the UK Top 2 and went Platinum. The Scottish trio, Simon Neil on guitar and vocals plus twin brothers James and Ben Johnston on bass and drums, had already put out three albums of knotty, progressive alternative rock before that breakthrough. Their fifth album Only Revolutions pushed them further, landing three singles in the UK Top Ten, including Many of Horror, which became the UK Christmas number one in 2010 after X Factor winner Matt Cardle covered it. The band peaked commercially with their 2013 double album Opposites, their first to hit number one in the UK. They have always been a live proposition too, with longtime touring members Mike Vennart and Richard Ingram expanding the three piece into something much bigger on stage. Ten studio albums deep into their career, Biffy Clyro have gone from scrappy Kilmarnock upstarts to one of the most dependable names in British rock.
