Big Bad Voodoo Daddy built their reputation on a sound rooted in the swing music of the 1940s and 1950s, blending big band energy with jump blues and a touch of Dixieland flair. The band got their name in a genuinely memorable way: frontman Scotty Morris met blues legend Albert Collins at a concert, and Collins signed his poster with the words "To Scotty, the big bad voodoo daddy." Morris figured the name was too good to pass up. Their breakout moment came when songs like "You and Me and the Bottle Makes 3 Tonight" and "Go Daddy O" landed on the soundtrack for the 1996 film Swingers, which put them squarely in front of a massive new audience. From there, they signed with Interscope and played the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show in 1999. Their 2009 tribute to Cab Calloway, How Big Can You Get?, showed just how deep their love for classic American swing actually runs.
