About
Big Scenic Nowhere started as a loose California desert rock project back in 2009, with Gary Arce of Yawning Man at the centre, but it properly took shape when Arce teamed up with Bob Balch of Fu Manchu in 2019. What makes the band tick is its revolving cast of heavy rock talent: their debut EP, Dying on the Mountain, pulled in Nick Oliveri, Thomas V. Jäger of Monolord, and Per Wiberg of Spiritual Beggars, among others, setting the tone for a project built on serious collaborations. Their 2020 full length Vision Beyond Horizon brought in Alain Johannes and locked in Tony Reed and Bill Stinson as permanent members. The second album, The Long Morrow, followed in 2022 on Heavy Psych Sounds Records and featured Reeves Gabrels of The Cure. By 2024 they had delivered The Waydown and a thunderous cover of Jethro Tull's "My God" for the Aqualung Redux tribute album, which Blabbermouth called "an incendiary, garage doom delight."
