About
BIJI is a Stockholm based duo with a genuinely distinct sound: Kurdish and Western Asian musical traditions woven together with hip hop, Afrobeat, Latin, and dance music. Robin Nazari, a Kurdish Swedish artist and actor known for his role in the Netflix series Snabba Cash, and director and producer Maceo Frost formed the project in 2019 out of a shared sense of responsibility toward Kurdish culture and identity, referencing historical restrictions on Kurdish language as part of what drives the work. Their video for "Zigidi" was shot on location in Kurdistan and follows a fictional desert mission packed with high energy action and documentary style footage. It picked up Best Music Video at SXSW and Music Video of the Year at the Swedish Grammis in 2025. Their debut album, BIJI pt. 1, is framed as a tribute to Kurdistan and the Kurdish diaspora, and the duo has since released "Can Can Can" with Kurdish singer Baxtyar Salih, a second collaboration following his appearance on "Chopi" from the album.
