Birdeatsbaby

About

Brighton's Birdeatsbaby built their sound on a genuinely unusual foundation: orchestral arrangements, klezmer textures, complex rhythms, and lyrics circling themes like religion, obsession, and animal rights. Classically trained pianist Mishkin Fitzgerald anchors the whole thing, and the band's cited influences range from Chopin and Debussy to Queen, Muse, and Nick Cave, which tells you something about how wide their net is cast. Their earlier work sat firmly in dark cabaret territory, but by the time their 2016 album Tanta Furia arrived, they were pulling just as hard from progressive metal acts like Tool and Opeth. Over the course of their run, Birdeatsbaby put out five studio albums and 20 EPs and singles, toured the UK, North America, and Europe, and ran a successful Kickstarter that pulled in over £11,000 from their devoted fanbase, who go by the name The Flock. Notably, Melora Creager of Rasputina played cello on The Bullet Within. In 2024, the band's members moved on to a new project called Crimson Veil, an alternative metal outfit, and stopped releasing music under the Birdeatsbaby name.
