Black Country, New Road built their reputation through two critically lauded albums before losing their lead vocalist and, remarkably, kept going without skipping a beat. The Cambridge seven piece signed to Ninja Tune and released For the First Time in 2021, a record that hit No. 4 on the UK Albums Chart and earned a Mercury Prize nomination. Their second album, Ants from Up There, arrived in 2022 under extraordinary circumstances: Isaac Wood announced his departure just four days before its release, citing mental health struggles. The album debuted at No. 3 anyway. Rather than falling apart, the remaining six members, Tyler Hyde, Lewis Evans, Georgia Ellery, May Kershaw, Charlie Wayne and Luke Mark, redistributed lead vocal duties among Hyde, Ellery and Kershaw and pressed forward. The 2023 concert film Live at Bush Hall showcased new material written in the post Wood era. Their third studio album, Forever Howlong, followed in April 2025.
