About
Black Magnet started as a one man project when James Hammontree wrote an entire four song demo tape in a single month back in 2018, then played every instrument himself on the debut album Hallucination Scene, released through 20 Buck Spin in 2020. Critics drew immediate comparisons to Godflesh and Nine Inch Nails, with one reviewer calling it "a superb example of flagrant and admirable Godflesh worship." The Oklahoma City outfit pulls from industrial metal, EBM, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, and even 1990s Memphis rap, making for a heavier and stranger brew than most bands in the genre attempt. The follow up, Body Prophecy, arrived in 2022 again via 20 Buck Spin and again produced by Sanford Parker, by which point the project had grown into a proper band. Their third album, Megamantra, landed in 2025, with the lineup now a four piece featuring dedicated drums from Jared Branson.
