About

Also known as: Minestry, Ministry and Co-Conspirators, Ministy

Few bands have reinvented themselves as dramatically as Ministry. Al Jourgensen launched the project in Chicago in 1981 as a synth pop act, then spent the late 1980s dragging it into heavier, angrier territory until Ministry became one of the defining forces in industrial metal. The albums that cemented their reputation, The Land of Rape and Honey, The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste, and the platinum selling Psalm 69, still sound ferocious decades on. Ministry's story is full of near endings. The Bush era trilogy of Houses of the Molé, Rio Grande Blood, and The Last Sucker pulled them back from commercial irrelevance with politically charged fury. The death of guitarist Mike Scaccia in 2012 threatened to finish things for good, and yet Jourgensen kept going, releasing From Beer to Eternity and later AmeriKKKant, Moral Hygiene, and Hopiumforthemasses. The lineup around Jourgensen has shifted constantly, pulling in collaborators like Jello Biafra, Joey Jordison, and Tommy Victor along the way.
