About

Also known as: Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid

KMFDM started as a performance art stunt in Paris in 1984, when founder Sascha Konietzko played bass through amps scattered across the Grand Palais while four coal miners pounded on the building's foundations. It quickly evolved into something far louder and more abrasive, a Hamburg rooted industrial outfit that mixes heavy metal guitar riffs, electronics, samples, and both male and female vocals into what Konietzko calls "The Ultra Heavy Beat". The band name is an initialism for the grammatically mangled German phrase Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, though on their first US tour the band gleefully told journalists it stood for "Kill Motherfucking Depeche Mode". Across twenty two studio albums and over two million records sold worldwide, KMFDM built a reputation as one of the acts that dragged industrial music toward mainstream ears. Their lyrics hit hard on politics, war, and oppression, and the band has always been notably hands on with fans. Recent activity includes a remastered official video for the fan favourite Juke Joint Jezebel, which surfaced in late 2024.
