Black Market Karma are a London formed, Dover based rock band built around the prolific output of singer, multi instrumentalist and home studio obsessive Stanley Belton. Since 2012 they have put out eleven studio albums, tracking through 60s rooted psychedelia, fuzz rock, folk, blues and even touches of traditional Indian music and lo fi electronica. Belton plays and records everything himself, reaching for vintage gear including a 1960s Vox Ultrasonic, a Mellotron, a Mini Moog and a sitar, and is known for using undisclosed open tunings that keep his live band swapping guitars mid set. The band toured Europe widely, sharing stages with Tess Parks, Les Big Byrd and The Underground Youth, supported The Warlocks on their UK tour in 2015, and joined The Black Angels across Europe in 2023. Their 2022 album Aped Flair and Hijacked Ideas pulled in comparisons to Dylan, the White Album era Beatles and The Brian Jonestown Massacre, while the collaborative record Friends in Noise brought together a cast including Tess Parks, Joakim Ahlund and The Underground Youth. A single produced by Sonic Boom, The Sour Truth, added another intriguing chapter to an already restless catalogue.
