About
Also known as: B.R.M.C., BRMC, Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club built their name on a raw, layered sound that pulled equally from hard rock, psychedelic rock, and noise pop, with comparisons flying early on to The Jesus and Mary Chain and Sonic Youth. The San Francisco trio of Peter Hayes, Robert Levon Been, and Nick Jago released their self titled debut in 2001, and their second album in 2003 took direct aim at the US government with tracks like "Generation" and "US Government". Then came the curveball: Howl in 2005 stripped everything back into a folk and Americana direction, proving the band was never interested in playing it safe. After lineup turbulence with Jago, drummer Leah Shapiro joined and has been behind the kit since. Across eight studio albums spanning from 2001 to 2018's Wrong Creatures, BRMC have never quite settled into one lane, moving through blues rock, gothic country, and back again, making them one of the more restless acts to come out of the early 2000s garage rock revival.
