Utrecht's Black Sun Empire have been shaping the darker end of drum and bass since the mid 1990s. The trio, made up of Rene Verdult and brothers Milan and Micha Heyboer, locked into the genre around 1995 and haven't looked back. Their sound sits firmly in neurofunk and techstep territory, dense and driving, and their catalogue spans from early releases like Driving Insane through to the double disc heavyweights Cruel & Unusual, Endangered Species, and From the Shadows. They run three labels, Black Sun Empire Recordings, oBSEssions, and BlackoutNL, giving them serious control over how their music reaches the world. Known tracks like Arrakis, The Rat, and Dawn of a Dark Day show the range they work with, from atmospheric tension to full on dancefloor pressure. They perform internationally and have played major festivals across Europe.
