Houston Press once called Blaggards "H town's heir to the emerald throne of Phil Lynott and Shane MacGowan," and honestly that tracks. This Houston Celtic rock outfit blends Irish rebel music with a hard rock edge, drawing on influences ranging from traditional folk to Black Sabbath. Led by Dublin born guitarist and vocalist Patrick Devlin, the band have been putting their stamp on Celtic punk since 2004, touring nationally and internationally and showing up at South by Southwest 2008 as the only Celtic act on the official bill. Their debut album Standards landed a couple of songs on the CBS series The Good Wife, and "Big Strong Man" turned up in the 2010 British film The Kid. Larry Kirwan of Black 47 gave them a nod too, featuring their take on The Irish Rover on his Celtic Invasion compilation. Their most recent studio record BLAGMATIC came out in 2021, keeping the mix of trad folk staples and unexpected covers very much alive.
