Blankenberge

About

Named after a Belgian coastal town the founding members visited on a trip through Europe, Blankenberge have built their sound around the hazy intersection of shoegaze, dream pop, and post rock. The Russian band started out in Barnaul, Siberia before relocating to Saint Petersburg, and vocalist Yana Guselnikova and guitarist Daniil Levshin have been the creative core since the beginning in 2015. Their catalogue spans four studio albums, from the 2017 debut Radiogaze through to Everything in 2021, each one deepening their signature layered sound. The 2022 invasion of Ukraine prompted a significant shift: Levshin publicly opposed the war, and he and Guselnikova moved to Serbia, with other members scattered across Europe. Despite operating fully remotely, the band released Decisions in 2025 on Dutch label Automatic Music, a collection of songs recorded before the war finally finding their release.
