Few bands defined the pop punk sound of the late 1990s and early 2000s quite like blink 182. The trio from Poway, California, built around Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker, broke through with Enema of the State in 1999, riding singles like "What's My Age Again?" and "All the Small Things" to global success. Their knack for sharp, irreverent punk rock with genuine hooks made them one of the biggest rock acts of their era. Over time the band pushed their sound into darker, more ambitious territory. Their 2003 self titled record marked a clear shift, trading goofy energy for cinematic song structures and more personal lyrics, even pulling in Robert Smith of The Cure for a gothic collaboration. After a breakup in 2005 and a reunion announced at the 2009 Grammy Awards, blink 182 kept at it, releasing material including "Bored to Death" and "She's Out of Her Mind" in the mid 2010s.
