About
Also known as: 보이존
Few boy bands have matched Boyzone's commercial run in the UK. Created in Dublin in 1993 by manager Louis Walsh, the five piece built a catalogue that racked up six UK number one singles, five number one albums, and around 25 million records sold worldwide by 2013. Their peak came with "No Matter What", originally written for the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Whistle Down the Wind, which shifted over four million copies globally and is considered the biggest selling single by a boy band. They shared a stage with Meat Loaf and performed the song in Italy alongside Luciano Pavarotti. After splitting in 1999 and reforming in 2007, the group was hit hard by the death of Stephen Gately in 2009. They pushed on regardless, and by 2018 had released a seventh studio album to mark their 25th anniversary before officially calling it a day the following year. The four remaining members, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, and Shane Lynch, left behind a body of work that placed them second only to Take That as the most successful boy band in British chart history.
