About
Also known as: Bob Scaggs, Boz Skaggs, William R. Scaggs, William Royce Scaggs
Few records capture a moment quite like Silk Degrees. Released in 1976, Boz Scaggs' breakthrough album hit number 2 on the Billboard 200 and spun off hits including 'Lowdown' and 'Lido Shuffle', with 'Lowdown' winning the Grammy for Best R&B Song and selling over a million copies in the US alone. The musicians he hand picked for those sessions, David Paich, David Hungate and Jeff Porcaro, went on to form Toto, making Silk Degrees one of the more quietly consequential records in rock history. Scaggs works comfortably across rock, blue eyed soul and the smoother end of the pop spectrum, and he has never really stopped. After a stretch away from recording in the 1980s he came back strong, kept releasing through the 90s and 2000s, and followed up his 2018 blues leaning set Out of the Blues with the 2025 album Detour. The connection to Toto has stayed warm too: David Paich contributed to six tracks on Scaggs' 2001 album Dig.
