About
Also known as: Bram De Loose, Bram Delooze
Belgian pianist and composer Bram De Looze has built a distinctive solo voice alongside his work in various ensembles. Originally from Knokke Heist, he studied jazz piano in Leuven and Antwerp before heading to the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, where he worked with mentors Marc Copland, Reggie Workman and Uri Caine. His solo discography runs to four albums: 'Piano e Forte' (2016), 'Switch the Stream' (2018), 'Colour Talk' (2020) and 'Spotting Gateways' (2024). On that last record, De Looze developed his material through extended listening sessions, recording himself without writing anything down, letting sound suggest its own direction. He also performs in ensembles including LABtrio, Pentadox and MixMONK, but it is the solo work where his approach to free jazz piano feels most unguarded and personal.
