Brandy Norwood hit the ground running with her self titled debut in 1994, a record that blended hip hop sensibilities, pop soul and R&B at a time when New Jack Swing still ruled the airwaves. Produced mainly by Keith Crouch, it sold over four million copies in the US and earned her two Grammy nominations. Singles like "I Wanna Be Down" and "Baby" made her one of the defining female R&B voices of the mid to late 1990s. She kept the momentum going with Never Say Never in 1998, which went five times platinum in America and featured "The Boy Is Mine", a chart topping duet with Monica that won her a Grammy for best R&B duo. Her solo number one came with "Have You Ever?". Later albums including Full Moon, Afrodisiac, Human and B7 showed her range as she worked with producers like Darkchild and collaborators including Kanye West and Timbaland. She also recorded under the alter ego Bran' Nu, stepping into rap territory on Timbaland's Shock Value II.
