Brittany Howard

About

Also known as: Brittany Amber Howard

Brittany Howard built her reputation as the voice and creative engine behind Alabama Shakes, the Alabama band whose 2012 debut Boys & Girls put her on the map and whose 2015 follow up Sound & Color debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. She has pulled in five Grammy Awards from 18 nominations, including Best Rock Song for her solo track Stay High, and Rolling Stone placed her on their 250 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list. Outside the Shakes, she kept busy with Thunderbitch, a surprise releasing rock outfit, and Bermuda Triangle, a trio she formed in Nashville with Jesse Lafser and Becca Mancari. Her 2019 solo debut Jaime won universal acclaim, with Pitchfork calling it a thrilling opus that pushes the boundaries of voice, sound, and soul to new extremes. The follow up What Now arrived in February 2024, and that same year she made her acting debut lending her personality and music to the Netflix animated film Thelma the Unicorn. She has also launched Kumite, a hardcore side project that played its first show in Nashville in early 2025, proving her appetite for genre exploration shows no sign of slowing.
