About
Broken Bells is the brainchild of two heavyweights pulling in opposite directions: James Mercer, the voice and guitar behind The Shins, and Brian Burton, the producer the world knows as Danger Mouse. The pair clicked after crossing paths at the Roskilde Festival and started recording in secret at Burton's Los Angeles studio, describing their sound as "melodic, but experimental, too." That self titled 2010 debut proved the point, shifting over 400,000 copies domestically and landing at number 7 on the Billboard 200. Rolling Stone called it "the year's coolest left field pop disc." The duo kept the creative partnership rolling with the EP Meyrin Fields in 2011 and the synth tinged second album After the Disco in 2014. After a lengthy gap they returned with Into the Blue in 2022, their third studio record. Live, Broken Bells expand into a four piece with touring members Dan Elkan and Jon Sortland filling out the sound.
