About
Also known as: Bryce David Dessner
Bryce Dessner leads a double life that most rock guitarists would envy. By night he's one half of the guitar engine behind the National, writing the music alongside his twin brother Aaron. By day he's a composer whose work gets commissioned by the likes of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall, the Kronos Quartet and the New York City Ballet. His Murder Ballades, written for the ensemble eighth blackbird, was featured on their album Filament, which Dessner also produced and which won a Grammy in 2016. His writing pulls from baroque and folk music, late Romanticism, modernism and minimalism, and he's worked with names like Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Nick Cave, Taylor Swift and Jonny Greenwood. He also founded the MusicNOW Festival, co founded Copenhagen's HAVEN festival, and helped start Brassland Records. In 2026 he earned his first Academy Award nomination, for the film Train Dreams.
