About
Also known as: 방탄, 방탄소년단, Bangtan Boys, Bangtan Sonyeondan, Beyond the Scene, Bulletproof Boy Scouts, Bōdan Shōnendan, The Bangtan Boys, 防弾少年団
BTS started out as a hip hop group built around an underground Seoul rapper, RM, and ended up as the best selling act in South Korean history, with more than 40 million albums sold. The seven members, Jin, Suga, J Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook, co write or co produce much of their own material, and the sound has stretched well beyond rap into a wide range of genres. Their lyrics deal with mental health, the pressures of school age life, loss, self love and the cost of fame, and they even run an alternate universe storyline across their work. After debuting in 2013 with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool, they broke through globally. Love Yourself: Tear made them the first South Korean act to top the Billboard 200, and "Dynamite" put them at number one on both the Hot 100 and the Global 200. They also sold out Wembley Stadium and the Rose Bowl, and released Japanese versions of tracks like "Run" and "I Need U" along the way. Their latest group album is Arirang.
