About
Bukahara is a four piece from Cologne that started out busking on the street and ended up on festival stages across Europe. The members met studying jazz at the Cologne University of Music, and between them they swap instruments constantly: guitar, upright bass, violin, mandolin, trombone, sousaphone and drums all get a turn. The lineup spans Germany, Palestine, Switzerland and Tunisian roots, which fits a sound that mixes gypsy jazz, neofolk and pop. They run their own label, BML Records, and have put out five albums since their 2013 debut, Bukahara Trio. Canaries in a Coal Mine (2020) took on populism and racism head on, while Tales of the Tides (2023) is built around the theme of flooding and made it into the Official German Charts. Along the way they toured with Colombian punk band Doctor Krápula and played Pohoda in 2019 and Sziget in 2024.
