About

Also known as: Caned Heat

Canned Heat built their name on a raw, deeply committed love of the blues, and nobody embodied that more than co founder Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson, whose eerie falsetto and harmonica playing gave the band a sound unlike any other blues rock act of the late 1960s. Their two biggest US hits, "On the Road Again" and "Going Up the Country", both showcased Wilson's voice, and "Going Up the Country" became the unofficial soundtrack to the Woodstock film, cementing the band's place in rock history. Bob "The Bear" Hite handled the rougher, more raucous side of the vocals, heard on "Let's Work Together". Canned Heat were always more of a live band than a chart act, and their sets at both the Monterey Pop Festival and Woodstock proved it. They also built a devoted following in the Netherlands through regular VPRO appearances, and a live recording from Amsterdam's Concertgebouw eventually surfaced as the album Under the Dutch Skies in 2007. Despite losing Wilson in 1970, Hite in 1981, and guitarist Henry Vestine in 1997, the band has kept going, with drummer Fito de la Parra steering the ship.
