About

Carlene Davis spent the first half of her career as one of Jamaica's more established female reggae voices, then changed course completely. She had local hits like "Like Old Friends Do" and "Dial My Number", came second in the 1981 Festival Song Contest with "Peace and Love", and even sang a duet with Gregory Isaacs called "Feeling Irie". In 1990 she was named Best Female Vocalist at the Caribbean Music Awards. A breast cancer diagnosis in 1996 shifted her focus to gospel, and she has stayed there since. "This Island Needs Jesus" was a major hit across several Caribbean countries in 2000, and she has put out over ten albums, running her own studio and the Glory Music label with her husband Tommy Cowan. Her 2014 record Dripping Blood reached number 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, and 2018's The Assignment brought in Marion Hall, Tyrone Downie and Dean Fraser.
