Over two million records sold makes Celtas Cortos one of the most commercially successful Spanish groups ever, which is a remarkable feat for a celtic rock band from Valladolid. Their sound started out purely instrumental before vocalist Jesús H. Cifuentes, known as Cifu, joined and brought protest lyrics and melancholic poetry into the mix. From there the band kept evolving, weaving in Caribbean music, flamenco, electronic music and reggae alongside their Celtic rock core. Tracks like 20 de Abril, La senda del tiempo and Tranquilo Majete became genuine hits. After Cifu's departure in 2002 the group went through a rough patch, but he returned in 2006 and they came back strong with 40 de Abril in 2008, landing in the Spanish top five. They have kept releasing albums steadily, with Energía positiva arriving in 2018.
